Crews making progress on Boyle Heights warehouse fire

Monday marks the sixth straight day of crews fighting the massive Lineage Logistics warehouse fire in Boyle Heights.

Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters have been working around the clock since the blaze was first reported at the 500,000-square-foot frozen food storage facility, located in the 1400 block of Los Palos Street, on Wednesday afternoon. Lineage Logistics says the warehouse is part of a network that stores and handles food products that feed millions across the greater L.A. area and beyond.

The fire has sent plumes of thick smoke into the sky that have been seen and smelled for miles across the Los Angeles area. While authorities have said repeatedly that the smoke is not toxic, locals, especially those who live near the facility, are advised to limit outdoor activity due to possible health hazards.

In response to the fire, California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a State of Emergency, allowing the state to use additional funding for firefighting efforts, public health services and disaster recovery as Los Angeles continues to deal with the emergency.
